What exactly is WoW Forever?
World of Warcraft: Forever is a separate, permanent branch of WoW announced at BlizzCon on September 12, 2026. It returns to the original world of Azeroth and freezes the timeline at the start of the game, but unlike Classic it keeps adding new content.
Blizzard describes it as neither a mode nor a season. It sits next to the modern game and WoW Classic as a third way to play, with its own characters, realms and updates.
How is it different from WoW Classic?
| WoW Classic (Era) | WoW Forever | |
|---|---|---|
| World | Original 2004–2006 content | Original Azeroth with new and reworked zones |
| Level cap | 60 | 60, permanently |
| New content | None | 1,000+ quests, new dungeons, raids, a battleground |
| Races | 8 | 8 plus the Skyborne, with new race/class combos |
| Talents | Classic trees | Rebuilt trees (most talents new or changed) |
| Systems | Classic | Adds Camping, Legacy account perks, two-part names |
| Graphics | Original | Upgraded lighting, water and optional HD models |
Our talent calculator shows exactly which talents changed for every class. Out of 466 talents in the current beta client, 139 are new and 246 changed compared with Classic Era.
What is new in Forever?
- New and reworked zones, including Mount Hyjal, the Riverglades and Zephras Isle (the Skyborne starting zone).
- Over 1,000 new quests across levels 1–60.
- Nine new dungeons, such as Hall of Thanes and Ruins of Lordaeron, plus new 10- and 20-player raids.
- The Skyborne, a new elven race available to both factions, and new combinations such as Undead Paladin and Orc Mage.
- Legacy: account-wide points that unlock perks for all your characters.
- Camping, two-part character names and a realm-free ruleset system (Normal, PvP, RP and Hardcore).
When does it launch and what does it cost?
The full game launches on November 4, 2026 at 3 p.m. PST — see the release date page for your local time. A beta runs from September 17 to October 21.
Forever is included with a WoW subscription or game time. Optional packs add the Skyborne race, name reservation and cosmetics; the Epic pack also includes beta access. See price and editions.
Who is WoW Forever for?
It suits players who liked Classic’s slower, group-focused leveling but want something new to discover, and newer players who want a world that is easier to learn than the modern game. If you want the latest expansion features and fast endgame progression, the modern game remains the better fit.
