Check the actual file, not only the addon name

A project can support several WoW branches. The default download may be for Retail even when a Forever file exists. Inspect the Files listing for the game version, filename, release date and author notes before installing.

Check the author’s current file listing before downloading. The versions above are marked for Forever by their authors and have not been tested by this site; try a small set of features before relying on them.

Install into the correct client

  1. Close the game before changing addon files.
  2. Locate the actual Forever client through the launcher’s installation information or folder-opening control, if available.
  3. Follow the project’s installation instructions and place the addon folders in that client’s Interface/AddOns location.
  4. Avoid an extra nested download folder: the addon’s files should be inside its own addon directory.
  5. Start the correct Forever branch and inspect the in-game addon list and any error messages.
  6. Test a small set of features before adding more addons.

The exact client folder can vary with your installation. Select the Forever instance rather than a Retail or Classic directory. If using an addon manager, confirm its detected game instance and branch before accepting an update.

Built-in features may change what you need

The September 24 notes describe a built-in Cooldown Manager with limited class and spell support during this test. Examine its current capabilities before assuming you need a separate tracker for every function. Conversely, a built-in feature being announced does not prove it covers your particular class or spell rank.

Gamepad controls and interface options are also being updated. An old addon recommendation may solve a limitation that has since changed. Prefer the smallest setup that supports your actual tasks and can be diagnosed if it breaks.

Isolate an addon problem

Record the game build and addon versions, then compare the same activity with all addons disabled. If the symptom disappears, re-enable a small group at a time until you identify the combination that brings it back. If it remains with everything disabled, investigate the client, settings or known issues instead of declaring an addon responsible.

Preserve saved settings before changing or removing folders. Turning off an addon is a reversible comparison; deleting its saved variables is a separate action that can erase preferences. Do not use “load out-of-date addons” as proof of compatibility.

Report a useful issue

Send the original author the exact version, game branch, error text, affected feature and concise reproduction steps. Do not include account credentials. If the problem is gradual slowdown, the low FPS sequence helps separate addon behavior from broader performance issues.
